You may have noticed a small army of volunteers on the roads in Ellastone engaged in Community Speed Watch. They are an independent group and if you would like to contact them please use their email address:
ellastonespeedwatch@outlook.com
The aim is to encourage drivers to observe the speed limit and drive safely through our villages. The scheme is part of the Staffordshire Road Safety Partnership and is supported by Staffordshire Police. The group is not connected to the Parish Council, although they do report back periodically, out of courtesy to keep them updated.
We live in a beautiful area with so much to enjoy, but the traffic through our villages is often a cause of concern and complaint. Ellastone Parish Council has actively sought to improve things in recent years and achieved some positive successes, including: the creation of the pavement around the corner of Wootton and Main Road, making it much safer for pedestrians; reducing the speed limit through the village; working with JCB to joint-fund the Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs). These not only remind drivers of the legal speed on our roads, but also record data about traffic volume and speeds.
Overall the mean speed is satisfactory ranging from 28-32.
We have established a positive dialogue with the Cauldon Low Quarry who are working with us to ensure appropriate journeys through Ellastone Village. A dedicted email address has now been setup by the Quarry:
cauldonlowtransport@aggregate.com
If you have any issues or concerns or need to report any witnessed activity relating to Quarry Lorries this should be reported to the above email address at the earliest possible opportunity so that this can be addressed by the Quarry and enable them to respond regarding any appropriate actions.
